Paris - The City of Lights
Paris is one of the premier capitals of the world especially the romantic amongst us; it has the ability to please everyone and is often referred to as The City of Lights. Unfortunately a Paris short stay can only ever be considered a taster; the desire to stay longer is strong as there is so much to see and do.
Visitors flock to see its many wonderful buildings; it has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. Like most European cities, Paris is easy to get around; the Metro underground train network will probably be the main method as it runs regularly and reaches every part of the city.
You can’t miss the Eiffel Tower, mainly because it’s over three hundred meters high; it’s visible throughout most of the city but the views from the top of this huge steel structure are even more impressive. You can be assured of an even more beautiful sight if you visit in the evening when it is illuminated; if you are really enthusiastic you can take a tour where the guide will tell you how this beautiful tower was built.
On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; if you want to see famous, designer label shops and the restaurants, this is the place. When you visit this region of the city you will see it is a much more select area; the average tourist may find the accommodation expensive but more modest hotels can be found away from this area.
If you are an art lover you will enjoy the Louvre, a truly amazing museum; it contains almost a third of a million exhibits and is in fact one of the biggest art museums in the world. If you are an art lover then you could spend your whole short stay in Paris inside; the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo statue just two of many appreciated works of art. Paris has attracted world famous artists for hundreds of years; these include Monet and Picasso who very fortunately left some of their work here for all to enjoy.
The famous 19th century edifice built on Napoleons instructions, the Arc de Triomphe, is also in Paris; it provides visitors with a wonderful photo experience because it contains the names of every one of his generals. The Arc is the focal point of the city and contains an observatory to view the local area; it can be found in Charles de Gaulle Place at the intersection of twelve avenues including the Champs Elysees.
You will not be at a loss for places to visit whilst in the city; although no trip would be complete without seeing these, they are probably best viewed as part of a guided tour, some of which are actually free. Paris short stay vacations should only ever be considered as tasters for what is a truly magnificent city; anything that’s missed will have to take a rain check.
