Exploring The Canyon of Imagination

Grand CanyonWhile going to school as a child we were all exposed to the history lessons of our country and to the great landmarks throughout the US. Some of these I still haven’t visited, but I did recently get the chance to see one that just took my breath away.

I’m talking about the “Grand Canyon” from the Arizona side. My trip started in Mesa, AZ. where my brother-in-law resides and then northwest to Flagstaff and across to the Grand Canyon. From there we landed up in Vegas until we departed back to Florida.

As we approached the Canyon, around 3pm that day, the anticipation was gut renching. My oldest daughter who was traveling with us at the time had already seen this spectacular site and directed us to the best view point. She took my wife and I by the arm and asked us to just look down at our feet until she got us to the rail. We went down a small path from the parking lot and followed a crowd whose anticipation in their voices was quite obvious.

Grand CanyonOnce we were in place, she asked us to close our eyes and just listen to the wind rising from the canyon floor along with the echo of birds flying overhead. Then what seemed to be ten minutes gone by, she gave us the green light to open our eyes. The scene was truly captivating as I reflected how this must have appeared to the early explorers who stood in the very same spot I was in.

All I can say folks is that if you ever get the chance to visit this wonderful place, don’t hesitate to do so. You will never regret it and it will visit you in your dreams from time to time. If you are fortunate enough to stay overnight at one of the hotels, be sure to watch the sunset and then rise early to catch the way the new day sun makes everything come alive.

Grand CanyonYou won’t believe you eyes as the rays from the sun dance off the colorful rock formations. So in closing, even if you plan a trip to Vegas be sure to include a day excursion to the Grand Canyon. This is truly one of the greatest treasures given to us to admire.
